Service providers in the telecommunication business, for example, BPO/ centers, e-commerce, telebanking, telemedicine, tele-education, and other IT enabled services are referred to as ‘Other Service Providers’ or generally known as 'OSP'. For any of these OSPs to give any telecom services utilizing the telecom resources, for example, public telecom network, mobile network, digital network, etc., they should be registered with Department of Telecommunication (DOT). It is compulsory for the OSP to be a Private Limited corporation to get the OSP license registration.
Reasons for OSP license
The concerned authority for getting OSP license is Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cells under the Department of Telecommunications.
After taking OSP license there would be no lawful obstacle as this is the main legal permit required to run BPO's/Call Center's or any other business as mentioned above.
