For all employees earning Rs.15, 000 or less/month as wages and the employer must furnish 4.75% and the employee must furnish 1.75% towards ESI. According to the rules and regulations of the ESI Act, 1948, the employee’s state insurance fund is managed by the ESI Corporation and oversees the provision of medical and cash benefits to employees and their families through its branch offices, dispensaries, and hospitals throughout India. According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Government of India ESI is an autonomous corporation.

What is an ESI Return?

This scheme is also covered as a part of Disability Benefits. In an unexpected event in a permanent disability or the death of the employee then it can be claimed by the dependants of the employee.

What are the Documents Required to File ESI Returns?

Some documents are required to file an ESI return which are mentioned below:

  • Registration Certificate or license that is procured under the Shops and Establishments Act.

  • If the company is registered under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013 then the certificate of incorporation must be given.

  • The Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association also must be given with other documents.

  • A copy of the respective trust deed must be given if the entity is a partnership company.

  • The certificate of commencement of work in the factory must be provided if the entity is a factory.

  • Information is given about the employees of the establishment or the establishment of a factory or company or another entity.

  • A list of all the directors, shareholders, and partners of the company.

  • PAN Card number of the Establishment or the Entity

  • Respective Bank Statement of the Organization

  • Register of Form- 6

  • Registry of wages

  • Address of the premises and other information related to the premises

  • Inspection Book and Certificates

  •  Attendance registers of the Company or factory or any other entity

 Process of filing the ESI Returns

Some points need to be considered for ESI Return which are given following:

  • Log in to the Employer Portal using the 17-digit Employer-digit code.  When the company is registered under the ESI rules then this code is provided to the company. When the 17-digit registration number is received by the company after that the ESI filing process can be easily carried out.

  • Go to the monthly contribution section. Before considering this, the employer or company must make sure that all information relating to the employee is updated before filing the returns.

  • All the information on the employer allowances will be displayed.

  • All the details are verified. After this enter bank details and click on the submit button for the monthly employee return.

  • For the monthly contribution, the section does self-certification and then checks to mark the declaration and tender the return.
