The Union Government started the Dr. Ambedkar Scheme for social integration by encouraging inter-caste marriage. The main intension of the scheme is to respect the socially bold step of an inter-caste marriage. To promote such inter-caste marriage, the government provides financial support and incentive to the married couple to authorize them in the initial phase of their life to settle down. So, the motive of  Dr. Ambedkar Scheme is improve social alliance and to bring about equality amongst people.

According to this scheme, every couple in which any one of the bride or bridegroom is Dalit will receive a amount of Rs 2.5 lakhs. 

Prior this scheme was meant for couples whose  annual income was below than Rs. 5 lakhs . Despite the fact that it is  to encourage inter-caste marriages involving dalits, the ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to permit the scheme for all without the income condition. As stated by new changes to the scheme a one-time incentive of  Rs 2.5 lakhs could be utilize by the couples who have married in the other caste, one of which is a dalit. Also, many states have similar schemes  without the income limit. The scheme started with the purpose of  supporting  and helping couples in their initial stage of  marriage life.

  • They can receive this amount after the  submission of Aadhaar details and their joint bank account (Aadhaar linked) to the concerned Ministry.

Features of Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme in Delhi

The incentive for a legal inter-caste marriage will be Rs.2.50 lakh per marriage. On  Pre-stamped receipt on Rs 10 Non-Judicial Stamp paper. The eligible couples will receive 1.50 lakh of the incentive amount though Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) / National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) to the joint bank account. The balance amount would be kept as Fixed Deposit for three years.

  • The Scheme was initially implemented on a pilot basis for 2 years i.e. from 2013-14 and 2014-15. The Scheme was continued as a regular scheme from April 2015. It was later amended during 2020.

  • The Hindu Marriage Act (HMA) governs the registration process, and proposals must be submitted within a year

  • One of the spouses must belong to the general caste and the other from the scheduled caste(SC)

  • The marriage must be registered and  valid under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

  • No incentive shall be provided in case of second marriage

  • The proposal shall be valid only If submitted within one year of marriage, 

  • The competent authority could take action according to law in case if there is any kind of fabrication in the application form filed

  • An amount of Rs. 25,000/-, for each marriage, would be released to the District Authorities for organising a befitting programme in which the incentive would be handed over to the couple.

Required Documents for Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme in Delhi

  • Marriage Certificate

  • Scheduled Caste Certificate of spouse who belongs to Scheduled Caste Community..

  • A certificate to the prove that it is the first marriage of both bride and bridegroom.

  • The income certificate of the both husband and wife which are issued by competent authority.

  • Marriage photo ,One Joint Photograph of the Couple which is  Duly Attested.

  • ID proof of parties 

  • The applicants must provide their Aadhar Card and joint bank account documents and details.

How to Apply for Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme in Delhi

  • Submission of the application form can be made in online or offline mode. 

  • Submission of the complete application with the recommendation of a sitting MLA/MP direct to the Dr Ambedkar Foundation.

  • The district administration or state government, which in turn will forward the same to the DAF with their recommendation assisted with the application.

  • All completed applications are examined on file and submitted for the orders of Chairman, Dr Ambedkar Foundation & Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

  • After the approval, the total amount  of Rs 2.50 lakhs  will be transferred to the beneficiary through RTGS( Real Time Gross Settlement)
