LMPC Stands for Legal Metrology packaged Commodity. It is the certificate that must be obtained by the companies that are importing pre-packed goods in India. The certificate of LMPC is under Rule 27 of the LMPC Rules and it is established by the Department of Consumer Affairs. It is a mandatory certificate to import goods in India.

The Application for an LMPC Certificate must be submitted within 90 days before the Importation of Goods. The outline for LMPC Certificate is outlined by the Legal Metrology Act, of 2009.

LMPC Importer License

Under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Rules, a Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Importer License must be obtained by the companies before 90 days of the importing of pre-packed goods for sale in India. It is a formal and essential procedure to bring imported goods into the country complying with legal standards.

Requirement for an LMPC Importer License

The LMPC License is required to let the importers to import their pre-packed goods in the Country legally. And it is very thoroughly checked by certain custom authorities, which are empowered by the government of India. The Authority makes the stoppage of the import shipment, so the imports must get the Legal Metrology License and its registration. So, the aim and requirement of the LMPC Import License is to provide a guarantee to the distributors and the customers that the pre-packed goods are free from any type of inaccurate ingredients and not damaged.

Mandatory Documents for the Registration of LMPC Importer License Certification

• PAN Card

• Adhaar Card

• Rent Agreement

• Name, Address, email address and phone number of the Manufacture

• GST Certificate or Sales Tax

• MSME Certificate

• IEC Certificate

• The Trade License, Manufacture License, or Factory License

• Stickers or labels, ls, etc., must be affixed to the pre-packed goods.

• In the case of a partnership firm, the partnership deed.

• The Code of Importation and Exportation.

• Passport-size photographs of the directors and the partners must be combined within one JPG image file.

• Residential proof of the registered place of work

• Country of origin of imported goods

Exemptions for Registration of LMPC Importer License Certification

There are certain Exemption rules of the LMPC Import License:

• Any Combination of Chemical which comes under Drug Order 1995.

• Agricultural production that weight more than 50 kg

• Cooked fast food and any packaged food that is found in the hotel.

• Package food’s net weight must be less than 10 g or 10 mms 

• Only fertilizer and cement must be sold in 50 kg bundles, and the package weight must be more than 25 kg or 25 litres.

• Packages of Institutional or Industrial Consumers.
